Diagnostic Overview

Suva Private Hospital's radiology facilities are the most advanced in Fiji. Our Radiology Department can carry out everything from general radiology (X-rays) to ultrasounds and mammograms. Our radiologist is also qualified to carry out Interventional Radiology that eliminates the need for open surgery. Instead, treatment for stomach problems such as abscesses and liver problems can by carried out using pin-hole surgery.

Interventional Radiology
Interventional Radiology is a subspeciality of Radiology in which minimally invasive procedures are performed using ultrasound and fluoroscopy.  The Intervational Imaging modalities available at the Suva Private Hospital include fluoroscopy and Ultrasound. Fluoroscopy use ionizing radiation but they are fast and geometrically accurate.  Ultrasound does not use radiation and is fast and inexpensive.  These procedures are under under local anesthesia. Common Interventional Procedures that are currently done at Suva Private Hospital include:

  • Drainage Insertions
Placement of tubes into different parts of the body to drain fluids e.g. abscess drainage, pleural and Ascitic drainage etc

  • Biopsy

  • Line insertion
For vascular access, this is mainly used for long-term intravenous antibiotics

  • Nephrostomy placement
Placing of a catheter directly into the kidney to drain urine in situations where normal flow of urine is obstructed.

  • Billiary Intervention
Placement of catheters in the billary system to bypass billary obstruction and decompress the billiary system.  This procedure is also used for placement of permanent indwelling billary stents.

  • Dialysis
    Access and related interventions.
