Patients at Suva Private Hospital can either make an appointment to be seen at the Medical Centre or simply walk in and make a booking.
Pre-registered patients who make an appointment will have their file ready when they arrive at reception. These patients will then proceed to the Medical Centre where they will be assessed by a nurse. Urgent cases will be immediately referred to a doctor.
Those patients who are not yet registered at Suva Private Hospital will need to fill in a form detailing personal information before they are sent to the Medical Centre to be seen by a nurse, and if required immediately referred to a doctor.
PATIENTS COVERED BY INSURANCE
Patients can refer themselves directly to Suva Private Hospital or get referred to a Specialist Consultant by their General Practitioner (GP).
Patients will need to check that the treatment or procedure required is covered by their private medical insurance. Once this is ascertained, the patient attends an out-patient appointment with a consultant. Tests required can either be carried out immediately or booked for a later date.
For patients whose treatment is carried out immediately, the consultant will write to inform the GP of the outcome of the consultation. The patient's insurer will then settle the hospital and consultant bills, and inform the patient of any shortfall. It is then the patient's responsibility to settle the shortfall directly with the hospital or consultant. This procedure also applies to patients who do not require treatment.
If treatment is not carried out immediately, a date is booked for in-patient or day-case treatment. The patient is admitted for treatment on the scheduled day after which the hospital and consultant sends a summary of the patient's treatment to their GP.
After this, the patient will attend a follow-up out-patient consultation. The insurer will then settle hospital and consultant bills and inform the patient of any shortfalls. The patient is responsible for settling any shortfalls directly with the hospital or consultant.
PATIENTS WHO ARE PAYING FOR THEIR OWN TREATMENT
Patients without healthcare insurance, can be referred to Suva Private Hospital by their GP who will write a letter to a Specialist Consultant requesting an opinion.
Relevant tests may be carried out during the initial consultation or booked for a later date. If tests are carried out immediately, the patient is asked to settle all bills, including hospital and consultant charges, before a report is released from the Specialist Practitioner to the patients GP.
In some cases, the consultant may recommend in-patient or day-case treatment and those without insurance will be given a guide to the hospital's and consultant's charges. It is then up to the patient whether to go ahead with the treatment.
If the procedure is agreed to then the patient must settle all bills before admission. Once this is done, the patient is admitted to hospital for treatment. At this point, a summary of treatment undergone is sent to the patient's GP by the hospital or consultant.
The patient then attends a follow-up consultation with the consultant and after this the patient can contact the hospital for advice.
